What’s in a Good Window Replacement Contract?

Getting a new set of windows can be a hassle and costly; that’s why it’s necessary to look for a reliable contractor to ensure everything will be worth it. Although it’s a challenge to hire one, the good news is that you can easily determine whether the contractor is trustworthy. Just look at the contract. It should include the following:

  • Contact Information
    Make sure this section is available so you can easily reach your contractor, especially after installation if and when you encounter any issue. This may include a mailing address, phone number, email address and fax number.

  • Project Overview
    Understanding the scope of your project is critical. This section will provide the number and other details of the windows for installation and the estimated project timeline. 

  • Bill of Materials
    This one goes into detail on what will be used to complete the installation. When reviewing contracts, ensure that everything in this section matches what you have discussed with your hired contractor.

  • License and Insurance Information
    Remember that a contract should include your potential contractor’s license number and at least a copy of the insurance certificate. The latter should state general liability insurance and workers’ compensation, which provides coverage for accidental property damage and worksite injuries, respectively.

  • Warranty Coverage
    Here, the warranties that come with your purchase should be highlighted. If not explained by a separate document, your contract must stipulate what your contractor should do if something goes wrong and what you must do to file a warranty claim.

I've changed my review from a 1 star to a 4 stars. Matt Stone got right on a pretty poor job done installing a skylight. He had his guys remove the skylight, move it, repair the roof and inside ceiling to its original state, paint it, repair some external trim that was damaged, and all within a few days after talking to him about the multiple problems. It was really an eyesore from the inside. I'd give a 5 star if this had been done well the first time. The skylight just didn't fit the space I first wanted it and was told it would. More communication about the potential problems might have allowed this to be done right the first time. But, Pressure Point Roofing gets 5 starts for making amends and correcting a pretty ugly problem, very fast! Thank you.
